Why your website is losing customers (and how to fix it in a week)
Slow pages, unclear offers and clumsy mobile layouts quietly drive visitors away. Here's a seven-day plan to find the leaks and fix the ones that matter most.

Most business websites don't fail loudly. They fail quietly — a visitor lands, waits a few seconds, can't find what they came for, and leaves. You never hear about it. You just see fewer enquiries than you should.
The good news: the biggest problems are usually the easiest to fix. Here's the seven-day plan we use when a client asks us why their site isn't converting.
Days 1–2: Measure before you change anything
Install Google Analytics 4 and Search Console if they aren't already set up, and run your homepage and top landing pages through PageSpeed Insights. Guessing is expensive — two days of data will tell you where the real leaks are.
What to write down
- Mobile load time for your five most-visited pages.
- Bounce rate and the pages people exit from most.
- How many visitors reach your contact page — and how many actually enquire.
Days 3–4: Fix speed first
Speed is the leak that affects every other page. On mobile data, every extra second costs you visitors before they've read a single word.
- Compress and resize images — this alone often halves load time.
- Remove plugins, sliders and chat widgets you don't really need.
- Serve modern formats like WebP and lazy-load anything below the fold.
If you edit your site's HTML directly, lazy-loading an image is a one-line change. Always include width and height so the layout doesn't jump while it loads:
1<img2 src="/images/hero.webp"3 width="1200"4 height="630"5 loading="lazy"6 decoding="async"7 alt="Festive gift boxes on a wooden table"8/>Days 5–6: Make the offer impossible to miss
Within five seconds, a visitor should know what you do, who it's for and what to do next. Rewrite your headline around the customer's problem, keep one primary button per page, and put your phone number or WhatsApp link where thumbs can reach it.
“If a visitor has to think about what you do, you've already lost them.”

Day 7: Test on real phones
Emulators and desktop previews hide the problems your customers actually feel. Borrow an older Android phone, switch to mobile data and run through your site like a first-time visitor.
A five-minute test script
- 1Open your homepage from a Google search, not a bookmark.
- 2Find your main service or product within two taps.
- 3Complete the main action — booking, buying or enquiring.
- 4Note every moment you hesitate, wait or zoom in.
Fix the worst three things you found, then measure again next week. Small, steady improvements compound — and your analytics will show it.
